DFUs are the most common foot complication in people with diabetes. Research shows that the recurrence of DFUs within one year after healing is 40%. Recurrance rises to 65% after five years.
The key to successful foot-ulcer prevention is effective pressure offloading and the reduction of shear stresses such as friction. This is currently achieved using passive devices such as insoles. These aim to minimise downward pressure, but fail to adequately reduce friction stresses.
PelliTec pads are different
PelliTec pads have have been designed and patented in the United Kingdom to cushion and reduce friction in the DFU area. The pad sticks to the inside of footwear, not to the skin. It has a cushioning top layer, and a gel interior which moves with the foot.
And unlike products that stick to the skin and need to be replaced every day or two, PelliTec pads can remain effective in footwear for several weeks and are easily replaced by a new pad when necessary.
The result is DFU prevention that delivers greater comfort, greater convenience, and greater confidence.
